Everybody is called by God, actually everybody is called by God to do just one thing: live life fully.  In fact, Jesus said as much in John's gospel: "...that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (Jn. 10:10)  But sometimes this calling gets clouded, and we sometimes get it confused with security, or jobs, or stuff, or money.  That's at the heart of the conversation Jesus has with this so-called "rich young man" in Mark chapter 10.  But let's look at this story from another angle ... our own!

October 4 was a Sunday this year, but it's also the Christian feast day of St. Francis -- one of the most popular historic followers of Jesus, perhaps mostly because of Francis' love of animals.  But Francis also showed us a way to live with brokenness.  Like Jesus, Francis showed us how to use our wounds and hardships to the glory of God -- not hiding them, like we might want to do, but finding God's redemption in them, and revealing that redemption to the world.
